I’ve used Garland and Greenwood for the last three years to do my taxes and will not use them again.

In that time nothing has changed in my employment or filing status and the price has risen from $325 to $500. Keep in mind they don’t tell you the price until it’s time to file and you have no choice but to pay it.

This year one of their accountants discovered an error that had been done by my wife’s employer on her w-2 that had been present the previous two years as well. I appreciate that they caught it, but since they missed it the past two years amendments need to be done to correct them to get our full refund. They said they would do them after tax season which is understandable. I don’t necessarily fault them for this since it was my wife’s employer that made the initial error, but it does mean they filed my all returns with errors each year I’ve used them.

What I do fault them for is how they handled this year’s taxes. When it came time to sign my return and file, their online system was not working. I came in to the office to sign and didn’t get to see my return until after signing and paying. As soon as I got home I found an error where they over reported my income. The error resulted in a significant amount of money missing from my refund. I tried as quickly as I could to tell them not to file since it was done wrong, but they filed it incorrectly anyways. They told me an amendment needed to be done and they tried to charge me an additional $75 for the amendment. When I asked why I was being charged for an error they made and to let me know how much it would cost to do the other amendments Jake told me to take my business elsewhere.

I will happily take my business elsewhere and suggest you do the same.
