We hired Ben to help us develop a Feasibility Report prior to putting our house back on the market. He was able to work with the City Planning Department to clarify what our 1980's PUD meant to our buyers and the potential for adding square footage to the home. I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Ben Moss during a significant home renovation in North Boulder. This was while he was working as a general contractor, under the name "Moss Builders".

I should add: I am a professional, and this is my fourth major renovation. This was not my first rodeo. I've worked with professionals in the building industry on all of my projects, and I'm generally considered by my friends to be a decent judge of character. All of this is to say, that when I found out Ben Moss was starting Home Strategy Pro, I asked him how I could speak well on his behalf. Thus, this review.

There are several things you ideally want, when working a remodel project. First, and foremost: You want to work with someone who knows how homes are built, inside and out. I can attest that Ben Moss knows his stuff. He has been inside houses, and he understands their innards. He knows construction, and understands structural engineering. He knows what it takes to build an excellent project, and he has x-ray vision when it comes to spotting problems. I can attest that when Ben Moss gives an opinion, he's probably right. If there is uncertainty, he will tell you.

Next, you want someone who, at the soul of it, is an artist. Anybody can jam together basic construction. It takes a real artist to see what a house can become. What can be made of its bones.

This distinction is, I think, what sets Ben Moss apart from other builders. He has the gift of being able to see potential, to see growth in several dimensions. He is not limited by rooflines or floorlines. He sees the style, the structure, the practical and financial implications, all at once. It's truly a gift. He used to call me with a set of three or four options. I would listen carefully, and then, at the end, I would ask him: "What do you think?" His answer was always the right one.

Next, you want to work with someone you can...work with. You want to know you can talk to him, and that you can trust what comes out of that person's mouth. Without hesitation, I can personally attest that Ben Moss is honest, direct, honest, approachable, honest, kind, and honest. He is a man I would recommend to my favorite people.

Finally, you want to know that the person you're working with isn't some sort of visionary weirdo who has no concept of the financial realities of mere mortals. You want to work with someone with the heart of an artist, but the brains of your accountant. This is another of Ben Moss' strengths. He understands what stuff costs, and he will help you understand the financial implications of various choices.

In short, my reference for Mr. Ben Moss is a glowing one. He has a true gift for seeing the potential of a home, and knowing how to bring it to its most magnificent potential. If I had to seek anyone's opinion about a home renovation project, it would be this man.
