Brent Myers CPA in Sarasota, FL did my parents taxes for years. Then he continued to do, when I became my parents Trustee. My Dad passed 5 years ago & my Mom just passed last summer. Mr Myers completed my Mom’s final & Trust tax returns. Over the years, he gave us personal attention & treated us like a family friend. DO NOT USE THIS PLACE ! If I could give zero stars I would. I dropped off my taxes the beginning of March.I was using a W2 standardized deduction. They glanced at it and said at the most I would pay is 1,000 to the IRS. I asked when they would be done approximately two weeks later. I was told to get previous year’s information which I did within 24 hours. Finally I told them I was going out of town and needed to pick them up. Joe Pomykala called me and stated I owed 3,680 to the IRS and my bill for them was $400. I told him it was ridiculous. He explained several people look at it which means more money for them since they charge by the hour. When I went to pick them up he came out and said he wasn’t going to do them because I minimized what he did. He was extremely unprofessional and rude. Fortunately it was April 1 and not April 15. I went the same day to H and R block who didn’t need the previous year’s taxes, the fee was $125 and I saved $300 on what I owed to the IRS. They also did them in about 40 minutes. Don’t waste your time or money with this place.

My wife and I just met with Mr. Brent Myers today. We had been very upset with the lack of communication from our previous CPA with whom we had at least a 6-7 year relationship. We were forced to file an amended 2016 federal tax return based on our previous CPA's failure to ask us the pertinent questions when preparing our return. He also rarely returned phone calls, emails, or faxed requests for information. He is a partner of a large downtown Sarasota firm. He failed to give us critical advice and then charged nearly a double fee when his incompetence led to our need to file the amended return.
Meeting with Brent Meyers today was a huge breath of fresh air. He is a total class guy, very aware and competent, and immediately understood our concerns while he examined our 2015 and 2016 returns. He made several important suggestions and walked us through plans for the future. We cannot express enough our complete sense of relief and confidence that we have now. It is apparent that communication is going to be at a high level from now on and we look forward to working with Brent. If you are even slightly dissatisfied with your current CPA, we would strongly encourage you to meet with him. Even though we consumed over a hour of his valuable time, he would not take any fee for the consultation. The office environment and staff were also very professional.

I have to disagree with the one star review, looking all your 7 reviews you hate every business you deal with. Brent Myers and his stuff being always helpful, even we give them all the paper work last minute, they always find time to get it done.

I have been going to Brent for a few years now. I am a CPA myself but I do not do taxes. I hunted him down for two reasons. First, the tax CPA I had been using was incompetent. I know because I know enough to ask the right questions and know when the answers don't add up. Second, I needed to do a 1031 exchange. This is a complicated transaction that you need an experienced and knowledgable CPA for. I interviewed at least 3 prior to meeting Brent. All of them said they could do it but when I asked them how many they had done, all of the ones I interviewed replied, " none, but how hard can it be?" . My thought was well then, I suppose I don't need to pay you to do, do I . When I asked Brent the same question, he giggled and said over 50 a year!!! He giggled because to him it was the normal course of business for him. That is what I needed to hear. He handled my transaction beautifully and I have been with him ever since. And BTW, he not only handle my transaction but gave me great advice BEFORE the transaction which is what experience counts for and what we pay for!! Thanks Brent!!

My wife and I were told our taxes would be done by April 15th. Then we were told an extension had to be filed because they didn't want to 'rush it". A few weeks later we were told it wasn't done because they had to fire a senior exec. Then we were told it was going to be done immediately. A week later and a short vacation, we were promised it would be done as soon as he returned (Joe P.) A week afterwards we were told he got food poisoning and lost time. By June, aggressive procrastination and excuses continued. An earlier email to Brent Myers went unanswered for as long. The CPA designation more appropriately means Certified Procrastinators Anonymous. Inquiries go unanswered, excuses abound and it was like pulling teeth to get the taxes filed. Finally, after hearing that Mr. Pomykala also lied to Mr. Meyers (as related by Mr. Meyers himself) all our tax records had to be resent and done by Mr. Meyers in mid-June, with no tax refund as calculated by him. Fortunately, the IRS did a far better job than Mr. Meyers and we were issued a refund for a poorly prepared tax return. I had to explain to Mr. Meyers that the IRS did the job he was supposed to be doing but didn't. The worst CPA firm I've had the displeasure of dealing with. But you will be treated to a cheerful amount of delusion and self-grandeur meanwhile.
