I hired BlockAdvisors to prepare both my personal and corporate returns for the year 2018. This was both for the State and Federal returns. I was given copies of all four returns. They were paid and I thought all was well. In the spring of 2020 I was notified of an audit by the IRS. They said I had received income that I had not reported. They told me I owed in excess of $ 60,000.
I knew I had reported all income, and I could not understand the problem. I contacted Block Advisors for help. During the off season it is difficult to reach someone at Block Advisors. During the tax season, they are too busy to talk to you. It took several months to get a response. I talked to the office manager, Jim Register, three different times. He finally admitted the the error was on their part. Block Advisors had in fact prepared accurate returns, but they failed to file both state and federal corporate returns. This explains the lack of reported income.
Jim Register told me he would resolve the problem with IRS. He did not. After several weeks I contacted the IRS agent and provided him with the corporate return. This resolved the issue with the IRS. I owed no additional money. The return was correctly prepared but not filed.
Subsequently I was contacted by the Franchise Tax Board for the same issue. Again I resolved the problem with the state. The state , however, fined me $ 500 for filing late. I immediately paid the fine to avoid further fines. I provided Jim Register with copies of all communication with both the IRS and the Franchise Tax Board. He told me he would file a claim and have me reimbursed for the fine. That has never happened, and he is not returning my calls. I strongly discourage anyone from using the services of Block Advisors
