The 2 stars instead of 1 is for the therapist providing a 5 o'clock intake appointment to accommodate my work schedule. This place was recommended by multiple people so I know others have had good experiences. But mine has been so poor I feel compelled to share.
When I called to ask about an appointment for my 10 year old daughter, the receptionist was rude and made me feel 2 feet tall. My little girl was in crisis and a change in her insurance had recently cost her a great therapist. The insurance continued to be an issue in my search for a new provider and by the time I was on the phone with Grayson & Associates I was a desperate mom. So when the receptionist said the insurance wouldn't be a problem, I had no choice but to wipe my tears and push past her cruel attitude...
The day of the appointment I was giving my daughter's Medicaid info to the receptionist when a woman behind me said something like "hang on now I don't accept Medicaid". It was the therapist. The receptionist explained to her it was just my child's secondary insurance. The therapist not introducing herself and starting things off with that abrasive interjection was consistent with her handling of the session. She asked my daughter questions about things she was struggling with emotionally and one after the next the therapist responded with a closed-ended cliche. My daughter is a polite people pleaser and did her best to seem helped by each "well don't feel that way, okay?"
The therapist strongly encouraged me to get my daughter ADHD evaluation at Focus MD. It felt like she had a professional association with them, like I was being sold something. Same with her pitch for a drug called Strattera. I mentioned side effects of it that I had seen before. She claimed to have never heard of those side effects even though they're among the most common (if not the most common).
I could tell she knew she was not a good fit and offered a next appointment a couple of months away, giving me an out to find another provider and never come back. I give her credit for that.
A few days after the appointment I received a text notification of my balance. A balance that shouldn't be there after the two insurances. I decided to give it some time before calling in case it was an insurance processing issue that would sort itself out. Then I received another text message about 3 weeks later with a balance that had doubled because of a second appointment. There had not been a second appointment... there was even a date for the second appointment that I was being charged for. When I called to inquire, there was no explanation for the second appointment charge but it appears to have since been corrected. I was informed they did not have my daughter's secondary insurance information... I had given this information over the phone the day I made the appointment, at the receptionist window when checking in, and on the paperwork I was give to fill out on the day of the appointment.
I have no doubt I will receive a bill again and have to have more unnecessary and difficult interactions with them. As previously stated, this place was recommended by many and I've only ever heard good things. And I'm usually pretty good at taking it on the chin. But it's on my heart to speak up so I am. Whoever is reading this I hope you have a wonderful day!

Edit: Got another balance notice the morning after posting this. Haha. I take solace in knowing what goes around comes around. Being so incompetent and cruel towards people in crisis and their caregivers has a karmic price I'd never want to pay...

I had an extremely disappointing experience throughout my time with this provider. The level of service was far below expectations, with numerous unnecessary obstacles and a lack of professionalism from the staff. The fees were excessive, and simple requests were met with delays and inefficiency. It became clear that the focus was more on financial gain from insurance companies than on patient care.

Appointments were often rushed, with billed time not reflecting the actual duration spent with the doctor, which was typically just a few minutes. Communication outside of appointments was nearly impossible due to an unhelpful and disrespectful call center staff. On multiple occasions, I was treated rudely, had calls abruptly ended, and experienced unprofessional behavior.

Additionally, their outdated processes required in-person visits for tasks that should have been easily handled online. Overall, it was a highly frustrating experience, and I am relieved to have found a new provider.

If you have a choice, don’t bother coming here just because they can get you in quicker. Dr McClure and the staff do not care about you or your health. Every day is just another day on the job they hate. I have run out of my meds more times than I can count in a little over a year with them. Doctor will not listen to you or even read your chart. If you call (if they answer) there is no hello just “Name and DOB of the patient”. These people will have you jumping through hoops to get your medications. And none of mine are even controlled! Just add yourself to the waitlist and stay alive long enough to be seen by a doctor with empathy.

I should’ve read the reviews first. I’m so angry right now I’m fighting back tears. My mom is not doing well at all. I finally convinced her to see someone as long as they weren’t far. She just said, “you have to check to make sure they take my insurance”. She gave me the info so I called on March 10.

They answer the phone with “what is the patients name and date of birth?” This should’ve been my first clue they were incompetent. Who answers a phone that way? I just said, I wasn’t a patient. I told them I just needed to know if Dr. Marks took my moms insurance since whe was recommended to us. They said, “you have to talk to ‘intake’”. So they transferred me.

Again they answered the phone with “what is the patients name and date of birth?” Again, I didn’t know how to answer. I said I just needed to know if Dr. Marks accepted my mom’s insurance. They said they’d take my number and call me back.

On March 20, I called back. Here is how that lovely conversation went:

What’s the patients name and date of birth?

I’m not a patient, I just need information

Ok what do you want

I called before to find out if y’all take my mom’s insurance but I have heard back.

Ma’am it can take a couple of days for them to get to you

But it’s been 10 days

Well sometimes it takes longer.

Okaaay, but how long do I wait before calling to check …

(Interrupts) ma’am, you don’t need to call. They will get to you when they get to you.

So are you saying that you are 100% sure they have my info and nothing has gone wrong?

Well, ma’am I’m not 100% sure of anything. But if you want I’ll give them your info again.

Ok thank you.

Then, on MAY 7, I went to the office. I walked up to talk to them but they were talking amongst themselves. Finally a lady pointed me to another window and the woman opened it and I asked to speak to the office manager. She said she was the manager so I told her:

“my mother is not doing well and I finally convinced her to get help so I called on March 10 just to check if y’all take her insurance. I was…”

“(Interrupts) what’s her name and date of birth?”

Me: “let me finish please. I called back on the 20th (then I told her about the phone conversation)”

Her: the reason I asked her name and dob is so I can see if they’ve entered anything in the records yet.

Me: reluctantly gives her the info. Then I say: you know I literally have a 30 second question. Like it shouldn’t be this hard.

Her: I am going to put in here that they need to get in touch with you right away.

Several hours later I get a call from someone saying that they had in their records I wanted to make an appointment for my mother.

Me: NO. I just want to know if you take her insurance!

For the first time - after 2 months of trying - she asked what the insurance was. I told her. After a few seconds she returned and said that that provider did not take her insurance.

I could have been looking for someone who actually wants to help my mother the whole time if someone - ANYONE - in that stupid office would’ve just taken the few seconds to just check.

The providers may all be well and good. But rude, uncaring, inefficient staff can cause damage as well. People are hurting and in need and they could not give a flying flip.

The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because I like my current therapist. However, I have had issues with many other members of the staff. They have cancelled my appointment AFTER I've already arrived, called out of work, and driven an hour to see them. I've sat in the waiting room for almost an hour before waiting to be seen. I once had a different therapist than I do now and it was like she was intentionally trying to trigger me. The people at the front desk regularly forget to let my provider know that I've arrived for my appointment so it cuts into my hour that I'm PAYING FOR to have a session with my therapist. I've been a patient here for a few years but I've had enough. Do not waste your time. Don't ignore the reviews like I did.

They've forgotten to refill my prescription twice and tried to blame it on me. Also, you'd have a better chance of running into someone in the waiting room who's better at listening than your own doctor. I thought mental health facilities were supposed to help, not make you feel even worse.

They will call and cancel your appointment with little to no warning but don't you dare be even 10 minutes late because they will NOT see you or even ask any questions. Just reschedule, why should it matter if you have to take off from work a 3rd time before you even get to speak with someone with any kind of credentials. If you're looking for your ”13th Reason” this place might fit the bill. 0/10 Do not recommend.
